John 1:12-14

12 But to all who did receive(A) Him,(B)
He gave them the right(C) to be[a] children(D) of God,(E)
to those who believe(F) in His name,(G)
13 who were born,(H)
not of blood,[b]
or of the will(I) of the flesh,(J)
or of the will of man,[c]
but of God.(K)
14 The Word(L) became flesh[d](M)
and took up residence[e] among us.
We observed His glory,(N)
the glory as the One and Only(O) Son[f] from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

- John 1:13 Lit bloods; the pl form of blood occurs only here in the NT. It may refer either to lineal descent (that is, blood from one’s father and mother) or to the OT sacrificial system (that is, the various blood sacrifices). Neither is the basis for birth into the family of God.

- John 1:14 The eternally existent Word (vv. 1-2) took on full humanity but without sin; Heb 4:15.

New International Version
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed(A) in his name,(B) he gave the right to become children of God(C)— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.(D)
14 The Word became flesh(E) and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,(F) the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace(G) and truth.(H)
