The Day of the Lord

28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit(A) on all people.(B)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,(C)
your old men will dream dreams,(D)
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants,(E) both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.(F)
30 I will show wonders in the heavens(G)
    and on the earth,(H)
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness(I)
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.(J)
32 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord(K) will be saved;(L)
for on Mount Zion(M) and in Jerusalem
    there will be deliverance,(N)
    as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors(O)
    whom the Lord calls.[a](P)

The Nations Judged

[b]“In those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes(Q) of Judah(R) and Jerusalem,
I will gather(S) all nations
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.[c](T)
There I will put them on trial(U)
for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel,
because they scattered(V) my people among the nations
    and divided up my land.
They cast lots(W) for my people
    and traded boys for prostitutes;
they sold girls for wine(X) to drink.

“Now what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon(Y) and all you regions of Philistia?(Z) Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done.(AA) For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples.[d](AB) You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks,(AC) that you might send them far from their homeland.

“See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them,(AD) and I will return(AE) on your own heads what you have done. I will sell your sons(AF) and daughters to the people of Judah,(AG) and they will sell them to the Sabeans,(AH) a nation far away.” The Lord has spoken.(AI)

Proclaim this among the nations:
    Prepare for war!(AJ)
Rouse the warriors!(AK)
Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.
10 Beat your plowshares into swords
and your pruning hooks(AL) into spears.(AM)
Let the weakling(AN) say,
    “I am strong!”(AO)
11 Come quickly, all you nations from every side,
    and assemble(AP) there.

Bring down your warriors,(AQ) Lord!

12 “Let the nations be roused;
let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat,(AR)
for there I will sit
to judge(AS) all the nations on every side.
13 Swing the sickle,(AT)
    for the harvest(AU) is ripe.
Come, trample the grapes,(AV)
    for the winepress(AW) is full
    and the vats overflow—
so great is their wickedness!”

14 Multitudes,(AX) multitudes
    in the valley(AY) of decision!
For the day of the Lord(AZ) is near
    in the valley of decision.(BA)
15 The sun and moon will be darkened,
and the stars no longer shine.(BB)
16 The Lord will roar(BC) from Zion
    and thunder from Jerusalem;(BD)
the earth and the heavens will tremble.(BE)
But the Lord will be a refuge(BF) for his people,
a stronghold(BG) for the people of Israel.

Blessings for God’s People

17 “Then you will know(BH) that I, the Lord your God,(BI)
dwell in Zion,(BJ) my holy hill.(BK)
Jerusalem will be holy;(BL)
never again will foreigners invade her.(BM)

18 “In that day the mountains will drip new wine,(BN)
and the hills will flow with milk;(BO)
all the ravines of Judah will run with water.(BP)
A fountain will flow out of the Lord’s house(BQ)
and will water the valley of acacias.[e](BR)
19 But Egypt(BS) will be desolate,
    Edom(BT) a desert waste,
because of violence(BU) done to the people of Judah,
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
20 Judah will be inhabited forever(BV)
    and Jerusalem through all generations.
21 Shall I leave their innocent blood unavenged?(BW)
    No, I will not.(BX)

The Lord dwells in Zion!(BY)

The Beast out of the Earth

11 Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth.(A) It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.(B) 12 It exercised all the authority(C) of the first beast on its behalf,(D) and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast,(E) whose fatal wound had been healed.(F) 13 And it performed great signs,(G) even causing fire to come down from heaven(H) to the earth in full view of the people. 14 Because of the signs(I) it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived(J) the inhabitants of the earth.(K) It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.(L) 15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship(M) the image to be killed.(N) 16 It also forced all people, great and small,(O) rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,(P) 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark,(Q) which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.(R)

18 This calls for wisdom.(S) Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[a](T) That number is 666.
