God’s Spirit Poured Out

¹⁶ But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

^29 (A)And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have ^(B)poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord God.”

² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and ^(A)it filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³ Then there appeared to them ^[a]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. ⁴ And ^(B)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began ^(C)to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

³⁹ For the promise is to you and ^(A)to your children, and ^(B)to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Mourning for the Pierced One

^10 (A)“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will ^(B)look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him ^(C)as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, ^(A)as upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ^(B)‘John indeed baptized with water, but ^(C)you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ^17 (D)If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(E)who was I that I could withstand God?”

¹⁸ When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, ^(F)“Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

⁷ And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: ^(A)“Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. ⁸ So God, ^(B)who knows the heart, ^[a]acknowledged them by ^(C)giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us,
