²⁰ They are distressed, because they had been confident;
    they arrive there, only to be disappointed.^(A)

“See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble
    and a rock that makes them fall,
    and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”^[a](A)

¹³ Lord, you are the hope^(A) of Israel;
    all who forsake^(B) you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust^(C)
    because they have forsaken the Lord,
    the spring of living water.^(D)

³ The nobles send their servants for water;
    they go to the cisterns
    but find no water.^(A)
They return with their jars unfilled;
    dismayed and despairing,
