The Beast from the Earth

11 Then I saw another beast (A)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, (B)whose deadly wound was healed. 13 (C)He performs great signs, (D)so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 (E)And he deceives [a]those who dwell on the earth (F)by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword (G)and lived.

who opposes and (A)exalts himself (B)above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits [a]as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For (C)the [b]mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only [c]He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, (D)whom the Lord will consume (E)with the breath of His mouth and destroy (F)with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is (G)according to the working of Satan, with all power, (H)signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among (I)those who perish, because they did not receive (J)the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And (K)for this reason God will send them strong delusion, (L)that they should believe the lie,

When the righteous [a]are in authority, the (A)people rejoice;
But when a wicked man rules, (B)the people groan.

Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice,
But a companion of harlots wastes his wealth.

The king establishes the land by justice,
But he who receives bribes overthrows it.

A man who (C)flatters his neighbor
Spreads a net for his feet.

By transgression an evil man is snared,
But the righteous sings and rejoices.

The righteous (D)considers the cause of the poor,
But the wicked does not understand such knowledge.

Scoffers (E)set a city aflame,
But wise men turn away wrath.

If a wise man contends with a foolish man,
(F)Whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace.

10 (G)The bloodthirsty hate the blameless,
But the upright seek his [b]well-being.

11 A fool vents all his (H)feelings,[c]
But a wise man holds them back.

12 If a ruler pays attention to lies,
All his servants become wicked.
