²⁴ For my sighing comes before ^[a]I eat,
And my groanings pour out like water.

⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping,

^5 (A)You have fed them with the bread of tears,
And given them tears to drink in great measure.

^3 (A)My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
^(B)“Where is your God?”

⁸ I am feeble and severely broken;
I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.

⁸ Even ^(A)when I cry and shout,
He shuts out my prayer.

¹¹ We all growl like bears,
And ^(A)moan sadly like doves;
We look for justice, but there is none;
For salvation, but it is far from us.

22 My ^(A)God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
Why are You so far from helping Me,
And from the words of My groaning?
² O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear;
And in the night season, and am not silent.

^20 (A)So that his life abhors ^(B)bread,
And his soul ^[a]succulent food.
