¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take;
    when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold.^(A)

⁹ And I will put this third into the fire,
    refine them as one refines silver,
    and test them as gold is tested.
They will call on my name,
    and I will answer them.
I will say, ‘They are my people,’
    and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ”^(A)

¹ O Lord, you have searched me and known me.^(A)
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from far away.^(B)
3 You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.^(C)

¹⁰ For you, O God, have tested us;
    you have tried us as silver is tried.^(A)

³ The crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold,
    but the Lord tests the heart.^(A)
