19 and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21 and said,

Naked came I out of my mother’s womb,
and naked shall I return thither:
the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.

19 when suddenly a mighty wind(A) swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead,(B) and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!(C)

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe(D) and shaved his head.(E) Then he fell to the ground in worship(F) 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
    and naked I will depart.[a](G)
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;(H)
    may the name of the Lord be praised.”(I)
