God’s Supreme Revelation^(A)

1 God, who ^[a]at various times and ^(B)in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, ² has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the ^[b]worlds; ^3 (C)who being the brightness of His glory and the express ^(D)image of His person, and ^(E)upholding all things by the word of His power, ^(F)when He had ^[c]by Himself ^[d]purged ^[e]our sins, ^(G)sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Our Compassionate High Priest

¹⁴ Seeing then that we have a great ^(A)High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, ^(B)let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵ For ^(C)we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but ^(D)was in all points tempted as we are, ^(E)yet without sin.

¹⁴ For it is evident that ^(A)our Lord arose from ^(B)Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning ^[a]priesthood. ¹⁵ And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest ¹⁶ who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. ¹⁷ For ^[b]He testifies:

¹⁸ For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of ^(D)its weakness and unprofitableness, ¹⁹ for ^(E)the law made nothing ^[c]perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of ^(F)a better hope, through which ^(G)we draw near to God.

Greatness of the New Priest

²⁰ And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath ²¹ (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him:

²² by so much more Jesus has become a ^[e]surety of a ^(I)better covenant.

²³ Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. ²⁴ But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. ²⁵ Therefore He is also ^(J)able to save ^[f]to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives ^(K)to make intercession for them.

²⁶ For such a High Priest was fitting for us, ^(L)who is holy, ^[g]harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, ^(M)and has become higher than the heavens; ²⁷ who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His ^(N)own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. ²⁸ For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

¹² Not ^(A)with the blood of goats and calves, but ^(B)with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place ^(C)once for all, ^(D)having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³ For if ^(E)the blood of bulls and goats and ^(F)the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, ^[a]sanctifies for the ^[b]purifying of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without ^[c]spot to God, ^(G)cleanse your conscience from ^(H)dead works ^(I)to serve the living God? ¹⁵ And for this reason ^(J)He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that ^(K)those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

²⁴ For ^(A)Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are ^[a]copies of ^(B)the true, but into heaven itself, now ^(C)to appear in the presence of God for us; ²⁵ not that He should offer Himself often, as ^(D)the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— ²⁶ He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. ^27 (E)And as it is appointed for men to die once, ^(F)but after this the judgment, ²⁸ so ^(G)Christ was ^(H)offered once to bear the sins ^(I)of many. To those who ^(J)eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
