“Indeed, who will (A)spare you, O Jerusalem,
Or who will (B)console you,
Or who will turn aside to ask about your well-being?
You who have (C)abandoned Me,” declares Yahweh,
“You keep (D)going backward.
So I will (E)stretch out My hand against you and bring you to ruin;
I am (F)tired of [a]relenting!
And I will (G)winnow them with a winnowing fork
At the gates of the land;
I will (H)bereave them of children; I will make My people perish;
(I)They did not [b]repent of their ways.
Their (J)widows will be more numerous before Me
Than the sand of the seas;
I will bring against them, against the mother of a choice man,
A (K)destroyer at noonday;
I will suddenly bring down on her
Anguish and terror.
She who (L)bore seven sons languishes;
[c]Her breathing is labored.
Her (M)sun has set while it was yet day;
She has been (N)shamed and humiliated.
So I will (O)give over their survivors to the sword
Before their enemies,” declares Yahweh.

(A)“Who will have pity on you, O Jerusalem,
    (B)or who will grieve for you?
Who will turn aside
    to ask about your welfare?
(C)You have rejected me, declares the Lord;
    (D)you keep going backward,
so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you—
    (E)I am weary of relenting.
(F)I have winnowed them with (G)a winnowing fork
    in the gates of the land;
I have bereaved them; I have destroyed my people;
    (H)they did not turn from their ways.
I have made their widows more in number
    than (I)the sand of the seas;
I have brought against the mothers of young men
    a destroyer at noonday;
I have made anguish and terror
    fall upon them suddenly.
(J)She who bore seven has grown feeble;
    (K)she has fainted away;
(L)her sun went down while it was yet day;
    she has been shamed and disgraced.
And the rest of them I will give to the sword
    before their enemies,
declares the Lord.”
