³ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways^(A) and your actions, and I will let you live^(B) in this place.

¹³ Now reform^(A) your ways and your actions and obey^(B) the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent^(C) and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you.

¹¹ “Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: Look! I am preparing a disaster^(A) for you and devising a plan^(B) against you. So turn^(C) from your evil ways,^(D) each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.’^(E)

⁴ then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning^(A) and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.^{(B) 5} Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head.^(C) If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.^{(D) 6} But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’^(E)

⁷ “Son of man, I have made you a watchman^(F) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.^{(G) 8} When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,^(H)’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for^[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^{(I) 9} But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so,^(J) they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.^(K)

¹⁰ “Son of man, say to the Israelites, ‘This is what you are saying: “Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away^(L) because of^[b] them. How then can we live?^(M)”’ ¹¹ Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.^(N) Turn!^(O) Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’^(P)

³⁰ “Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent!^(A) Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.^{(B) 31} Rid^(C) yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart^(D) and a new spirit. Why^(E) will you die, people of Israel?^(F)

⁸ Come near to God and he will come near to you.^(A) Wash your hands,^(B) you sinners, and purify your hearts,^(C) you double-minded.^(D)

⁸ Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.^{(A) 9} And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’^(B) I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. ¹⁰ The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.^(C)
