³ O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth?
You have struck them,
    but they felt no anguish;
you have consumed them,
    but they refused to take correction.
They have made their faces harder than rock;
    they have refused to turn back.^(A)

³⁰ In vain I have struck down your children;
    they accepted no correction.
Your own sword devoured your prophets
    like a ravening lion.^(A)

⁷ I said, “Surely the city^[a] will fear me;
    it will accept correction;
it will not lose sight^[b]
    of all that I have brought upon it.”
But they were the more eager
    to make all their deeds corrupt.^(A)

3 Woe, soiled, defiled,
    oppressing city!^(A)
2 It has listened to no voice;
    it has accepted no correction.
It has not trusted in the Lord;
    it has not drawn near to its God.^(B)

²⁵ So he poured upon him the heat of his anger
    and the fury of war;
it set him on fire all around, but he did not understand;
    it burned him, but he did not take it to heart.^(A)
