²³ Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord or walked in His law, in His statutes or in His testimonies, ^(A)therefore this calamity has happened to you, as at this day.”

¹¹ Yes, ^(A)all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the ^(B)Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him. ¹² And He has ^(C)confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; ^(D)for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem.

⁹ Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore the Lord has brought all this ^(A)calamity on them.’ ”

^18 (A)Did not your fathers do thus, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring added wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”

¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For ^(A)you^[a] are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

²⁰ Rather, that the things which the Gentiles ^(A)sacrifice ^(B)they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.

²¹ “The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them, and did it not come into His mind?

¹⁸ But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.”
