¹⁶ “We will not listen^(A) to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord!^(B)

²⁷ But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

¹⁴ “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’

¹⁵ Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god^(A) will be able to rescue^(B) you from my hand?”

⁴ Then the officials^(A) said to the king, “This man should be put to death.^(B) He is discouraging^(C) the soldiers who are left in this city, as well as all the people, by the things he is saying to them. This man is not seeking the good of these people but their ruin.”

¹⁸ They said, “Come, let’s make plans^(A) against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest^(B) will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise,^(C) nor the word from the prophets.^(D) So come, let’s attack him with our tongues^(E) and pay no attention to anything he says.”

¹⁵ but it will be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north^(A) and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’^(B) For I will restore^(C) them to the land I gave their ancestors.^(D)

¹⁶ “But now I will send for many fishermen,” declares the Lord, “and they will catch them.^(E) After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt^(F) them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.^{(G) 17} My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden^(H) from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes.^(I)

¹⁰ They have returned to the sins of their ancestors,^(A) who refused to listen to my words.^(B) They have followed other gods^(C) to serve them.^(D) Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant^(E) I made with their ancestors.

⁸ But they did not listen or pay attention;^(A) instead, they followed the stubbornness of their evil hearts.^(B) So I brought on them all the curses^(C) of the covenant I had commanded them to follow but that they did not keep.^(D)’”
