¹⁸ But if you do not ^[a]surrender to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans; they shall burn it with fire, and ^(A)you shall not escape from their hand.’ ”

³ Thus says the Lord: ^(A)‘This city shall surely be ^(B)given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.’ ”

³ For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you ^(A)prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: ^(B)“Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it; ⁴ and Zedekiah king of Judah ^(C)shall not escape from the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him ^[a]face to face, and see him ^(D)eye to eye; ⁵ then he shall ^(E)lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall be ^(F)until I visit him,” says the Lord; ^(G)“though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed” ’?”

⁸ ‘And as the bad ^(A)figs which cannot be eaten, they are so bad’—surely thus says the Lord—‘so will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, his princes, the ^(B)residue of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and ^(C)those who dwell in the land of Egypt. ⁹ I will deliver them to ^(D)trouble into all the kingdoms of the earth, for their harm, ^(E)to be a reproach and a byword, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them. ¹⁰ And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, till they are ^[a]consumed from the land that I gave to them and their fathers.’ ”

⁴ Then ^(A)the city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled at night by way of the gate between two walls, which was by the king’s garden, even though the Chaldeans were still encamped all around against the city. And ^(B)the king^[a] went by way of the ^[b]plain. ⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him. ⁶ So they took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon ^(C)at Riblah, and they pronounced judgment on him. ⁷ Then they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, ^(D)put^[c] out the eyes of Zedekiah, bound him with bronze fetters, and took him to Babylon.

⁸ And in the fifth month, ^(E)on the seventh day of the month (which was ^(F)the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), ^(G)Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. ^9 (H)He burned the house of the Lord ^(I)and the king’s house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, ^(J)he burned with fire. ¹⁰ And all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard ^(K)broke down the walls of Jerusalem all around.

²⁰ I will ^(A)spread My net over him, and he shall be taken in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and ^(B)try him there for the ^[a]treason which he committed against Me. ^21 (C)All his ^[b]fugitives with all his troops shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be ^(D)scattered to every wind; and you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”

¹³ I will also spread My ^(A)net over him, and he shall be caught in My snare. ^(B)I will bring him to Babylon, to the land of the Chaldeans; yet he shall not see it, though he shall die there.

And he killed all the princes of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ He also ^(C)put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in ^[b]bronze fetters, took him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.

⁵ But the Chaldean army pursued them and ^(A)overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had captured him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to ^(B)Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him. ⁶ Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his ^(C)eyes in Riblah; the king of Babylon also killed all the ^(D)nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover ^(E)he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with bronze ^[a]fetters to carry him off to Babylon.
