¹⁵ I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them ^(A)persistently, saying, ^(B)‘Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and ^(C)do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ ^(D)But you did not incline your ear or listen to me.

¹¹ Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: ‘Thus says the Lord, Behold, I am shaping disaster against you and devising a plan against you. ^(A)Return, every one from his evil way, and ^(B)amend your ways and your deeds.’

⁵ saying, ^(A)‘Turn now, every one of you, ^(B)from his evil way and evil deeds, and ^(C)dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever. ^6 (D)Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, ^(E)or provoke me to anger ^(F)with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’

²⁰ but declared first ^(A)to those in Damascus, ^(B)then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also ^(C)to the Gentiles, that they should ^(D)repent and ^(E)turn to God, performing deeds ^(F)in keeping with their repentance.

³⁰ “Therefore ^(A)I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. ^(B)Repent and turn from all your transgressions, ^(C)lest iniquity be your ruin.^{[a] 31 (D)}Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and ^(E)make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! ^(F)Why will you die, O house of Israel? ^32 (G)For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; ^(H)so turn, and live.”

²⁰ and say: ‘Hear the word of the Lord, ^(A)you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter by these gates. ²¹ Thus says the Lord: Take care for the sake of your lives, and ^(B)do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. ²² And do not carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath ^(C)or do any work, but ^(D)keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers. ²³ Yet ^(E)they did not listen or incline their ear, ^(F)but stiffened their neck, that they ^(G)might not hear and receive instruction.

²⁴ “‘But if you listen to me, declares the Lord, and ^(H)bring in no burden by the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but ^(I)keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work on it, ²⁵ then ^(J)there shall enter by the gates of this city kings and princes who sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their officials, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city shall be inhabited forever.

³ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(A)Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. ^4 (B)Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’

⁵ “For if you truly ^(C)amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly ^(D)execute justice one with another, ⁶ if you ^(E)do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, ^(F)or shed innocent blood in this place, ^(G)and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, ^7 (H)then I will let you dwell in this place, ^(I)in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.

⁸ Therefore ^(A)whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, ^(B)who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

^34 (A)O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! ^(C)How often would I have ^(D)gathered ^(E)your children together ^(F)as a hen gathers her brood ^(G)under her wings, and ^(H)you were not willing! ³⁵ Behold, ^(I)your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ^(J)‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
