³     the Lord appeared to him^[a] from far away.
^(A)I have loved you with an everlasting love;
    therefore ^(B)I have continued ^(C)my faithfulness to you.

^4 (A)I led them with cords of kindness,^[a]
    with the bands of love,
and ^(B)I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws,
    and ^(C)I bent down to them and fed them.

^8 (A)In overflowing anger for a moment
    I hid my face from you,
^(B)but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,”
    says the Lord, your Redeemer.

¹⁷ But ^(A)the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on ^(B)those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to ^(C)children's children,

³ Yes, ^(A)he loved his people,^{[a]
    (B)}all his holy ones were in his^[b] hand;
^(C)so they followed^[c] in your steps,
    receiving direction from you,

¹⁷ But Israel is saved by the Lord
    with everlasting salvation;
^(A)you shall not be put to shame or confounded
    to all eternity.
