²⁷ who think to make my people forget my name ^(A)by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their ^(B)fathers forgot my name for Baal?

^33 (A)As soon as Gideon died, the people of Israel turned again and ^(B)whored after the Baals and made ^(C)Baal-berith their god. ³⁴ And the people of Israel ^(D)did not remember the Lord their God, who had delivered them from the hand of all their enemies on every side,

^7 (A)And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and ^(B)the Asheroth.

⁸ But Elymas the ^(A)magician (for that is the meaning of his name) ^(B)opposed them, seeking to turn ^(C)the proconsul away from the faith.

⁸ For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(A)Do not let your prophets and ^(B)your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream,^[a]

³ For he rebuilt the high places ^(A)that Hezekiah his father had destroyed, and he erected altars for Baal and made ^(B)an Asherah, ^(C)as Ahab king of Israel had done, ^(D)and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.

Further Disobedience and Oppression

^6 (A)The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord ^(B)and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, ^(C)the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they ^(D)forsook the Lord and did not serve him.

13 “If a prophet or ^(A)a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and ^(B)the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ ³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God ^(C)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall ^(D)walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and ^(E)hold fast to him. ⁵ But ^(F)that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. ^(G)So you shall purge the evil^[a] from your midst.

⁶ For among them are ^(A)those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, ⁷ always learning and never able to ^(B)arrive at a knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Just as ^(C)Jannes and Jambres ^(D)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, ^(E)men corrupted in mind and ^(F)disqualified regarding the faith.
