Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

139 O Lord, you have (A)searched me and known me!
You (B)know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you (C)discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
    behold, O Lord, (D)you know it altogether.
You (E)hem me in, behind and before,
    and (F)lay your hand upon me.
(G)Such knowledge is (H)too wonderful for me;
    it is high; I cannot attain it.

(I)Where shall I go from your Spirit?
    Or where (J)shall I flee from your presence?
(K)If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
    (L)If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall (M)lead me,
    and your right hand shall hold me.

But Jonah (A)rose to flee to (B)Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to (C)Joppa and found a ship going to (D)Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to (E)Tarshish, (F)away from the presence of the Lord.

But (G)the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened (H)to break up.

The Lord Will Restore Israel

33 (D)“As I live, declares the Lord God, (E)surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and (F)with wrath poured out I will be king over you. 34 (G)I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out. 35 (H)And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, (I)and there I will enter into judgment with you (J)face to face.

28 And a (A)man of God came near and said to the king of Israel, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because the Syrians have said, (B)“The Lord is a god of the hills but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore (C)I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’”

23 And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills, and so they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
