Exhortation to Repent

22 Thus says the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,^(A)

² Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Go and speak to King Zedekiah of Judah and say to him: Thus says the Lord: I am going to give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.^(A)

¹⁹ But Herod the ruler, who had been rebuked by him because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil things that Herod had done,^{(A) 20} added to them all by shutting up John in prison.

¹⁸ For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”^(A)

¹³ but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”^(A)

¹¹ To the house of the king of Judah say: Hear the word of the Lord,^(A)

Manasseh Restored after Repentance

¹⁰ The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.

¹⁵ The Lord was angry with Amaziah and sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you resorted to a people’s gods who could not deliver their own people from your hand?”^{(A) 16} But as he was speaking, the king^[a] said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be put to death?” So the prophet stopped but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you because you have done this and have not listened to my advice.”

² Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.^{(A) 3} Nevertheless, some good is found in you, for you destroyed the sacred poles^[a] out of the land and have set your heart to seek God.”^(B)
