²     you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
    you worker of treachery.^(A)

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb
    led to the slaughter.
And I did not know it was against me
    that they devised schemes, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its fruit;
    let us cut him off from the land of the living,
    so that his name will no longer be remembered!”^(A)

³ who whet their tongues like swords,
    who aim bitter words like arrows,^(A)

¹¹ If they plan evil against you,
    if they devise mischief, they will not succeed.^(A)

2 Woe to those who devise wickedness
    and evil deeds^[a] on their beds!
When the morning dawns, they perform it,
    because it is in their power.^(A)
2 They covet fields and seize them,
    houses and take them away;
they oppress householder and house,
    people and their inheritance.^(B)
3 Therefore thus says the Lord:
Now, I am devising against this family an evil
    from which you cannot remove your necks,
and you shall not walk arrogantly,
    for it will be an evil time.^(C)

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
    and those who love it will eat its fruits.^(A)
