² And when they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord:

¹¹ He shall come ^(A)and strike the land of Egypt, ^(B)giving over to the pestilence those who are doomed to the pestilence, to captivity those who are doomed to captivity, and to the sword those who are doomed to the sword.

⁹ So I said, “I will not be your shepherd. ^(A)What is to die, let it die. What is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed. And let those who are left devour the flesh of one another.”

^(C)Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.

³ When he opened the second seal, I heard ^(A)the second living creature say, “Come!” ⁴ And out came another horse, ^(B)bright red. Its rider was permitted ^(C)to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

⁵ When he opened the third seal, I heard the ^(D)third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, ^(E)a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. ⁶ And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, ^(F)“A quart^[a] of wheat for a denarius,^[b] and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and ^(G)do not harm the oil and wine!”

⁷ When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of ^(H)the fourth living creature say, “Come!” ⁸ And I looked, and behold, ^(I)a pale horse! And its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill ^(J)with sword and with famine and with pestilence and ^(K)by wild beasts of the earth.

^2 (A)A third part you shall burn in the fire ^(B)in the midst of the city, ^(C)when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. ^(D)And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and ^(E)I will unsheathe the sword after them.

^12 (A)A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; ^(B)a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; ^(C)and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.

¹² Though they fast, I will not hear their cry, ^(A)and though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them ^(B)by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
