² And it shall be, if they say to you, ‘Where should we go?’ then you shall tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord:

^11 (A)When he comes, he shall strike the land of Egypt and deliver to death ^(B)those appointed for death, and to captivity those appointed for captivity, and to the sword those appointed for the sword.

⁹ Then I said, “I will not feed you. ^(A)Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish. Let those that are left eat each other’s flesh.”

^12 (A)When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and ^(B)when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But ^(C)I will consume them by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.”

^10 (A)He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; ^(B)he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. ^(C)Here is the ^[a]patience and the faith of the saints.

^12 (A)One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and ^(B)I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after ^(C)them.

^2 (A)You shall burn with fire one-third in the midst of ^(B)the city, when ^(C)the days of the siege are finished; then you shall take one-third and strike around it with the sword, and one-third you shall scatter in the wind: I will draw out a sword after ^(D)them.

Second Seal: Conflict on Earth

³ When He opened the second seal, ^(A)I heard the second living creature saying, “Come ^[a]and see.” ^4 (B)Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to ^(C)take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.

Third Seal: Scarcity on Earth

⁵ When He opened the third seal, ^(D)I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, ^(E)a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of ^(F)scales^[b] in his hand. ⁶ And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A ^[c]quart of wheat for a ^[d]denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and ^(G)do not harm the oil and the wine.”

Fourth Seal: Widespread Death on Earth

⁷ When He opened the fourth seal, ^(H)I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” ^8 (I)So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And ^[e]power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, ^(J)to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, ^(K)and by the beasts of the earth.
