¹⁷ The Lord of hosts, ^(A)who planted you, has decreed disaster against you, because of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, ^(B)provoking me to anger by making offerings to Baal.”

¹⁵ “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I am bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, ^(A)because they have stiffened their neck, ^(B)refusing to hear my words.”

⁵ Then he took of the seed of the land ^(A)and planted it in fertile soil.^[a] He placed it beside abundant waters. ^(B)He set it like a willow twig,

⁴ Thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord: ^(A)Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up—that is, the whole land.

¹⁰ If you will remain in this land, ^(A)then I will build you up and not pull you down; I will plant you, and not pluck you up; ^(B)for I relent of the disaster that I did to you.

² The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, ^(A)“The Lord your God pronounced this disaster against this place.

^7 (A)It may be that their plea for mercy will come before the Lord, ^(B)and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.”
