¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

^14 (A)Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

^9 (A)not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary ^(B)blessing, knowing that you were called to this, ^(C)that you may inherit a blessing.

³ for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and ^[a]behaving like mere men?

¹³ And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

^4 (A)Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord are these.’

⁵ “For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly ^(B)execute ^[a]judgment between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, ^(C)or walk after other gods to your hurt, ^7 (D)then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in ^(E)the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.

⁸ “Behold, you trust in ^(F)lying words that cannot profit. ^9 (G)Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and ^(H)walk after other gods whom you do not know, ^10 (I)and then come and stand before Me in this house ^(J)which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’?

⁹ And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I ^[a]offended you, ^(A)that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me ^(B)that ought not to be done.”
