The Untamable Tongue

3 My brethren, ^(A)let not many of you become teachers, ^(B)knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

⁴⁷ And ^(A)that servant who ^(B)knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ^48 (C)But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

¹³ “But ^(A)woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

³ nor as ^(A)being ^[a]lords over ^(B)those entrusted to you, but ^(C)being examples to the flock;

^8 (A)But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your ^[a]Teacher, ^[b]the Christ, and you are all brethren. ⁹ Do not call anyone on earth your father; ^(B)for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. ¹⁰ And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.

²⁸ And ^(A)God has appointed these in the church: first ^(B)apostles, second ^(C)prophets, third teachers, after that ^(D)miracles, then ^(E)gifts of healings, ^(F)helps, ^(G)administrations, varieties of tongues.

²⁹ For he who eats and drinks ^[a]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the ^[b]Lord’s body. ³⁰ For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many ^[c]sleep. ³¹ For ^(A)if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, ^(B)we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

^7 (A)for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth ^[a]in Christ and not lying—^(B)a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
