You lust and do not have, so you (A)commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and (B)do not receive, because you ask [a]with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request [b]on your pleasures. You (C)adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with (D)the world is (E)hostility toward God? (F)Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture (G)says to no purpose, “[c]He [d]jealously desires (H)the Spirit whom He has made to dwell in us”? But (I)He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “(J)God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
