The Sin of Partiality

2 My brothers,^{[a] (A)}show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)the Lord of glory. ² For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,

²³ but we preach Christ ^(A)crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ^(B)the power of God and ^(C)the wisdom of God. ²⁵ For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁶ For consider your calling, brothers: ^(D)not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,^[a] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. ²⁷ But ^(E)God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; ^(F)God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; ²⁸ God chose what is low and despised in the world, even ^(G)things that are not, to ^(H)bring to nothing things that are, ²⁹ so ^(I)that no human being^[b] might boast in the presence of God. ³⁰ And because of him^[c] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us ^(J)wisdom from God, ^(K)righteousness and ^(L)sanctification and ^(M)redemption,

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, ^(A)“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles ^(B)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ^26 (C)It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,^{[a] 27} and whoever would be first among you must be your slave,^{[b] 28} even as the Son of Man came not to be served but ^(D)to serve, and ^(E)to give his life as a ransom for ^(F)many.”

Jesus Heals Two Blind Men

^29 (G)And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. ³⁰ And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord,^[c] have mercy on us, ^(H)Son of David!”
