New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “For behold, I create (A)new heavens and a new earth;
And the (B)former things will not be remembered or come to [a]mind.
18 But be (C)glad and rejoice forever in what I create;
For behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing
And her people for gladness.
19 I will also (D)rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people;
And there will no longer be heard in her
The voice of (E)weeping and the sound of crying.
20 No longer will there be [b]in it an infant who lives only a few days,
Or an old person who does (F)not [c]live out his days;
For the youth will die at the age of a hundred,
And the [d](G)one who does not reach the age of a hundred
Will be thought accursed.
21 They will (H)build houses and inhabit them;
They will also (I)plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 They will not build and (J)another inhabit,
They will not plant and another eat;
For (K)as the [e]lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people,
And My chosen ones will (L)fully enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They will (M)not labor in vain,
Or give birth to children for disaster;
For they are the [f](N)descendants of those blessed by the Lord,
And their descendants with them.

24 It will also come to pass that before they call, I will (O)answer; while they are still speaking, I will listen. 25 The (P)wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox; and (R)dust will be the serpent’s food. They will (S)do no evil or harm on all My (T)holy mountain,” says the Lord.

A New Universe

17 Take notice! I’m about to create new heavens
    and a new earth;
the former things won’t be remembered,
    nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad[a] and rejoice[b] forever
    in what I am creating,
for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy,
    and its people as a delight.
19 I’ll rejoice over Jerusalem,
    and take delight in my people;
no longer will the sound of weeping be heard in it,
    nor the cry of distress.

20 “And[c] there will no longer be in it
    a young boy[d] who lives only a few days,
        or an old person who does not live out his days;
for one who dies at a hundred years will be thought a mere youth,
    and one who falls short of a hundred years will be considered accursed.
21 People[e] will build houses and live in them;
    They’ll plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 They won’t build for others to inhabit;
    they won’t plant for others to eat—
for like the lifetime[f] of a tree,[g] so will the lifetime[h] of my people be,
    and my chosen ones will long enjoy[i] the work of their hands.
23 They won’t toil in vain
    nor bear children doomed to misfortune,
for they will be offspring blessed[j] by the Lord,
    they and their descendants with them.
24 Before they call, I will answer,
    while they are still speaking, I’ll hear.

25 “The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
    and the lion will eat straw like the ox;
but as for the serpent—
    its food will be dust!
They won’t harm or destroy
    on my entire holy mountain,”

says the Lord.
