Jesus Appears to His Disciples

³⁶ As they were talking about these things, ^(A)Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” ³⁷ But they were ^(B)startled and ^(C)frightened and ^(D)thought they saw a spirit. ³⁸ And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? ³⁹ See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. ^(E)Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” ⁴⁰ And when he had said this, ^(F)he showed them his hands and his feet. ⁴¹ And while they still disbelieved ^(G)for joy and were marveling, ^(H)he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” ⁴² They gave him a piece of broiled fish,^{[a] 43} and he took it and ate before them.

^18 (A)No one has ever seen God; ^(B)the only God,^[a] who is at the Father's side,^{[b] (C)}he has made him known.

For God So Loved the World

¹⁶ “For ^(A)God so loved ^(B)the world,^{[a] (C)}that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not ^(D)perish but have eternal life.

²⁵ So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, ^(A)“Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”

²⁶ Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. ^(B)Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ^(C)“Peace be with you.” ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, ^(D)“Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” ²⁸ Thomas answered him, ^(E)“My Lord and my God!”

The Ascension

⁶ So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, ^(A)will you at this time ^(B)restore the kingdom to Israel?” ⁷ He said to them, ^(C)“It is not for you to know ^(D)times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. ⁸ But you will receive ^(E)power ^(F)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and ^(G)you will be ^(H)my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and ^(I)Samaria, and ^(J)to the end of the earth.” ⁹ And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, ^(K)he was lifted up, and ^(L)a cloud took him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, ^(M)two ^(N)men stood by them in ^(O)white robes, ¹¹ and said, ^(P)“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, ^(Q)will ^(R)come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

²¹ But now ^(A)the righteousness of God ^(B)has been manifested apart from the law, although ^(C)the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— ²² the righteousness of God ^(D)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. ^(E)For there is no distinction: ²³ for ^(F)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ^24 (G)and are justified ^(H)by his grace as a gift, ^(I)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ whom God ^(J)put forward as ^(K)a propitiation ^(L)by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in ^(M)his divine forbearance he had passed over ^(N)former sins. ²⁶ It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

³ For ^(A)I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died ^(B)for our sins ^(C)in accordance with the Scriptures, ⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised ^(D)on the third day ^(E)in accordance with the Scriptures, ⁵ and that ^(F)he appeared to Cephas, then ^(G)to the twelve. ⁶ Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. ⁷ Then he appeared to ^(H)James, then ^(I)to all the apostles. ⁸ Last of all, as to one untimely born, ^(J)he appeared also to me.

²⁰ But in fact ^(A)Christ has been raised from the dead, ^(B)the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. ²¹ For as ^(C)by a man came death, ^(D)by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. ²² For ^(E)as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. ²³ But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then ^(F)at his coming ^(G)those who belong to Christ.
