12 He who said to them, “Here is rest, give rest to the weary,” And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen. 13 So the word of the Lord to them will be, “[a]Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,” That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.
Judah Is Warned
14 Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, O scoffers, Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, 15 Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, And with [b]Sheol we have made a [c]pact. The overwhelming [d]scourge will not reach us when it passes by, For we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.”
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, [f]firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be [g]disturbed. 17 “I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place. 18 “Your covenant with death will be [h]canceled, And your pact with Sheol will not stand; When the overwhelming scourge passes through, Then you become its trampling place. 19 “As often as it passes through, it will [i]seize you; For morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night, And it will be [j]sheer terror to understand [k]what it means.” 20 The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too [l]small to wrap oneself in. 21 For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon, To do His task, His [m]unusual task, And to work His work, His [n]extraordinary work. 22 And now do not carry on as scoffers, Or your fetters will be made stronger; For I have heard from the Lord [o]God of hosts Of decisive destruction on all the earth.
Isaiah 28:13V 10, note 1 The Lord responds to their scoffing by imitating their mockery, to represent the unintelligible language of a conqueror
Philippians 1:27-30New American Standard Bible (NASB)
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one [a]mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.29 For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
