On this mountain,[a](A)
the Lord of Armies will prepare for all the peoples a feast of choice meat,(B)
a feast with aged wine, prime cuts of choice meat,[b] fine vintage wine.
On this mountain
he will swallow up the burial shroud,
the shroud over all the peoples,
the sheet covering all the nations.(C)
When he has swallowed up death once and for all,(D)
the Lord God will wipe away the tears
from every face(E)
and remove his people’s disgrace(F)
from the whole earth,
for the Lord has spoken.

On that day it will be said,
“Look, this is our God;
we have waited for him, and he has saved us.
This is the Lord; we have waited for him.
Let’s rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”(G)
10 For the Lord’s power will rest on this mountain.
But Moab(H) will be trampled in his place[c]
as straw is trampled in a dung pile.

11 He will spread out his arms in the middle of it,
as a swimmer spreads out his arms to swim.
His pride will be brought low,
along with the trickery of his hands.(I)
12 The high-walled fortress will be brought down,
thrown to the ground, to the dust.(J)

Celebration of the Righteous

“On this mountain,[a] the Lord of the Heavenly Armies will prepare for all peoples
    a banquet of rich food,
a banquet of well-aged wines—
    rich food full of marrow,
and refined wines of the finest[b] vintage
And on this mountain,[c] he will swallow up
the burial[d] shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the veil that is spread over all nations—
he has swallowed up[e] death forever!
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and he will take away the disgrace of his people
        from the entire earth.”
for the Lord has spoken.

“And you[f] will say at that time,[g]
‘Look! It’s the Lord![h] This is our God!
We waited for him,
    and he saved us.
This is the Lord!
    We waited for him,
so let us rejoice,
and we will[i] be glad that he has saved us.”

The Misery of Moab

10 For the Lord’s power[j] will rest on this mountain,[k]
but the Moabites will be trodden down beneath him,
just as straw is trodden down
in the slime of[l] a manure pit.
11 They will spread out their hands in the thick of it,
just as swimmers spread out their hands to swim,
but the Lord will bring down their pride,
together with the cleverness of their hands.
12 He brings down the high fortifications of your walls
    and lays them low;
he will raze them[m] to the ground,
    right down to the dust.
