²² All this took place to fulfill^(A) what the Lord had said through the prophet:

²³ “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”^[a](A) (which means “God with us”).

¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father^(A)—and I lay down my life for the sheep.^{(B) 16} I have other sheep^(C) that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock^(D) and one shepherd.^(E)

⁷ If you really know me, you will know^[a] my Father as well.^(A) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

⁸ Philip^(B) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

⁹ Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.^(C) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?^(D) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.^(E) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. ¹¹ Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.^(F)

⁹ After he said this, he was taken up^(A) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

¹⁰ They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white^(B) stood beside them. ¹¹ “Men of Galilee,”^(C) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back^(D) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

³ regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life^[a](A) was a descendant of David,^(B)

⁴ and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power^[a](A) by his resurrection from the dead:^(B) Jesus Christ our Lord.^(C)

³ For what I received^(A) I passed on to you^(B) as of first importance^[a]: that Christ died for our sins^(C) according to the Scriptures,^(D)
