¹⁶ This is what the Lord says—
    he who made a way through the sea,
    a path through the mighty waters,^(A)
17 who drew out^(B) the chariots and horses,^(C)
    the army and reinforcements together,^(D)
and they lay^(E) there, never to rise again,
    extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:^(F)
18 “Forget the former things;^(G)
    do not dwell on the past.
¹⁹ See, I am doing a new thing!^(H)
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness^(I)
    and streams in the wasteland.^(J)
20 The wild animals^(K) honor me,
    the jackals^(L) and the owls,
because I provide water^(M) in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
²¹     the people I formed^(N) for myself^(O)
    that they may proclaim my praise.^(P)

²⁵ “I, even I, am he who blots out
    your transgressions,^(A) for my own sake,^(B)
    and remembers your sins^(C) no more.^(D)

    let us argue the matter together;^(E)
    state the case^(F) for your innocence.
