² All these things my hand has made,
    so all these things are mine,^[a]
            says the Lord.
But this is the one to whom I will look,
    to the humble and contrite in spirit
    who trembles at my word.^(A)

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one
    who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
I dwell in the high and holy place
    and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble
    and to revive the heart of the contrite.^(A)

¹⁸ The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
    and saves the crushed in spirit.^(A)

¹⁷ The sacrifice acceptable to God^[a] is a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.^(A)

¹⁴ Happy is the one who is never without fear,
    but one who is hard-hearted will fall into calamity.^(A)

⁶ For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
    but the haughty he perceives from far away.^(A)
