²¹ “As for me, this is my covenant^(A) with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit,^(B) who is on you, will not depart from you,^(C) and my words that I have put in your mouth^(D) will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.

¹⁸ I will raise up for them a prophet^(A) like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words^(B) in his mouth.^(C) He will tell them everything I command him.^(D)

²² “As the new heavens and the new earth^(A) that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure.^(B)

³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence,^(A) and you are doing what you have heard from your father.^[a]”^(B)

³⁹ “Abraham is our father,” they answered.

“If you were Abraham’s children,”^(C) said Jesus, “then you would^[b] do what Abraham did. ⁴⁰ As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me,^(D) a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.^(E) Abraham did not do such things.
