²¹ And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord: my spirit that is upon you and my words that I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth or out of the mouths of your children or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from now on and forever.^(A)

¹⁸ I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet,^[a] who shall speak to them everything that I command.^(A)

⁸ for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.^(A)

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.^(A)

The Servant’s Humiliation and Vindication

³⁸ I declare what I have seen in the Father’s presence; as for you, you should do what you have heard from the Father.”^[a](A)

Jesus and Abraham

³⁹ They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, you would do^[b] what Abraham did,^{(B) 40} but now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.
