⁴ For you have been a refuge to the poor,
    a refuge to the needy in their distress,
    a shelter from the rainstorm and a shade from the heat.
When the blast of the ruthless was like a winter rainstorm,^(A)

¹² For I will leave in the midst of you
    a people humble and lowly.
They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord—^(A)

² Each will be like a hiding place from the wind,
    a covert from the tempest,
like streams of water in a dry place,
    like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.^(A)

² All these things my hand has made,
    so all these things are mine,^[a]
            says the Lord.
But this is the one to whom I will look,
    to the humble and contrite in spirit
    who trembles at my word.^(A)

²⁵ But thus says the Lord:
Even the captives of the mighty will be taken,
    and the prey of the tyrant will be rescued,
for I will contend with those who contend with you,
    and I will save your children.^(A)

⁴¹ but he raises up the needy out of distress
    and makes their families like flocks.^(A)
