All your rulers have fled together;
They are captured by the archers.
All who are found in you are bound together;
They have fled from afar.

The People Taken Captive to Babylonia

24 (A)The captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, (B)Zephaniah the second priest, and the three doorkeepers. 25 He also took out of the city an [a]officer who had charge of the men of war, seven men of the king’s close associates who were found in the city, the principal scribe of the army who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city. 26 And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took these and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. 27 Then the king of Babylon struck them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. (A)So it was, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, that they fled and went out of the city by night, by way of the king’s garden, by the gate between the two walls. And he went out by way of the [a]plain. But the Chaldean army pursued them and (B)overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had captured him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to (C)Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him. Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his (D)eyes in Riblah; the king of Babylon also killed all the (E)nobles of Judah. Moreover (F)he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with bronze [b]fetters to carry him off to Babylon.

Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem

For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts,
(A)Takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah
(B)The[a] stock and the store,
The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;
(C)The mighty man and the man of war,
The judge and the prophet,
And the diviner and the elder;
The captain of fifty and the [b]honorable man,
The counselor and the skillful artisan,
And the expert enchanter.

“I will give (D)children[c] to be their princes,
And [d]babes shall rule over them.
The people will be oppressed,
Every one by another and every one by his neighbor;
The child will be insolent toward the [e]elder,
And the [f]base toward the honorable.”

When a man takes hold of his brother
In the house of his father, saying,
“You have clothing;
You be our ruler,
And let these ruins be under your [g]power,”
In that day he will protest, saying,
“I cannot cure your ills,
For in my house is neither food nor clothing;
Do not make me a ruler of the people.”

For (E)Jerusalem stumbled,
And Judah is fallen,
Because their tongue and their doings
Are against the Lord,
To provoke the eyes of His glory.
