    the vines of Sibmah^(C) also.
The rulers of the nations
    have trampled down the choicest vines,^(D)
which once reached Jazer^(E)
    and spread toward the desert.
Their shoots spread out^(F)
    and went as far as the sea.^[a](G)

⁴ Heshbon^(A) and Elealeh^(B) cry out,
    their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz.^(C)
Therefore the armed men of Moab cry out,
    and their hearts are faint.

³² I weep for you, as Jazer^(A) weeps,
    you vines of Sibmah.^(B)
Your branches spread as far as the sea^[a];
    they reached as far as^[b] Jazer.
The destroyer has fallen
    on your ripened fruit and grapes.

⁷ The new wine dries up^(A) and the vine withers;^(B)
    all the merrymakers groan.^(C)

⁹ So I weep,^(A) as Jazer weeps,
    for the vines of Sibmah.
Heshbon and Elealeh,^(B)
    I drench you with tears!^(C)
The shouts of joy^(D) over your ripened fruit
    and over your harvests^(E) have been stilled.

For there the shield of the mighty was despised,
    the shield of Saul—no longer rubbed with oil.^(E)
