⁵ The Lord has broken the ^(A)staff of the wicked,
    the ^(B)scepter of rulers,

^4 (A)For the yoke of his burden,
    ^(B)and the staff for his shoulder,
    the rod of his oppressor,
    you have broken as ^(C)on the day of Midian.

³ For ^(A)the scepter of wickedness shall not ^(B)rest
    on ^(C)the land allotted to the righteous,
lest the righteous ^(D)stretch out
    their hands to do wrong.

¹⁵ The destroyer of ^(A)Moab and his cities has come up,
    and the choicest of his young men have ^(B)gone down to slaughter,
    declares ^(C)the King, ^(D)whose name is the Lord of hosts.
¹⁶ The calamity of Moab is near at hand,
    and his affliction hastens swiftly.
^17 (E)Grieve for him, all you who are around him,
    and all who know his name;
say, ^(F)‘How the mighty scepter is broken,
    the glorious staff.’

⁵ Woe to Assyria, ^(A)the rod of my anger;
    the staff in their hands is my fury!
