² And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of ^(A)Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men.

² Saul chose for himself three thousand men of Israel. Two thousand were with Saul in ^(A)Michmash and in the mountains of Bethel, and a thousand were with ^(B)Jonathan in ^(C)Gibeah of Benjamin. The rest of the people he sent away, every man to his tent.

⁵ Then the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, ^[a]thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people ^(A)as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of ^(B)Beth Aven.

³¹ Also the children of Benjamin from Geba dwelt in Michmash, Aija, and Bethel, and their villages;

²² And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.

³¹ Now they had ^[a]driven back the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. So the people were very faint.

⁵ The front of one faced northward opposite Michmash, and the other southward opposite Gibeah.

²¹ Then they turned and departed, and put the little ones, the livestock, and the goods in front of them.

² Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the country.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.
