Os delegados da Babilónia
(2 Rs 20.12-19)
39 Pouco tempo depois, Merodaque-Baladã, filho do rei Baladã da Babilónia, enviou embaixadores com cartas e um presente a Ezequias, porque tinha ouvido dizer que estivera muito doente e que já estava restabelecido. 2 Ezequias apreciou muito este gesto e quis levar os delegados da Babilónia a visitar o seu palácio, mostrando-lhes inclusivamente a casa do tesouro, cheia de peças de prata e de ouro, de especiarias raras e dos melhores perfumes. Levou-os ainda à casa das armas e mostrou-lhes tudo; não lhes escondeu nada; abriu-lhes todas as portas.
3 Então o profeta Isaías foi ter com o rei e disse-lhe: “Donde vieram esses homens? Que foi que te disseram?”
Ezequias respondeu: “Vieram de muito longe! Vieram da Babilónia!”
4 “Que foi que eles viram do teu palácio?”, perguntou Isaías.
“Viram tudo! Mostrei-lhes todos os meus tesouros.”
5 “Ouve-me!”, disse-lhe Isaías. “Dá atenção à palavra do Senhor dos exércitos: 6 Há de vir a altura em que tudo neste palácio será transportado para a Babilónia. Todos os tesouros dos teus antepassados serão levados; nada ficará aqui. 7 Alguns dos teus filhos até serão feitos escravos. Sim, eunucos, do palácio do rei da Babilónia.”
8 “Essa é uma boa notícia da parte do Senhor”, respondeu Ezequias. Porque pensou: “Pelo menos, haverá paz e segurança durante a minha vida!”

Ezequias e os enviados da Babilônia
39 Por volta daquele tempo Merodaque-Baladã, filho de Baladã, era o rei da Babilônia. Ele ouviu dizer que Ezequias tinha estado doente. Então enviou mensageiros com cartas e presentes para ele. 2 Ezequias ficou muito contente e mostrou a todos eles os seus tesouros: ouro, prata, especiarias, azeite fino, as armas que tinha no seu arsenal e tudo o que havia na tesouraria real. Ele lhes mostrou tudo o que havia no seu palácio e no seu reino. 3 Então o profeta Isaías foi falar com o rei Ezequias e lhe perguntou:
—De onde vieram aqueles homens e o que lhe disseram?
Ezequias respondeu:
—Eles vieram de muito longe, da Babilônia.
4 Então Isaías perguntou:
—O que eles viram no seu palácio?
Ezequias disse:
—Eles viram tudo o que há no palácio e nos depósitos. Não houve nada que eu não lhes mostrasse.
5 Então Isaías disse a Ezequias:
—Ouça a mensagem do SENHOR Todo-Poderoso: 6 “Chegará o dia em que levarão para a Babilônia tudo o que há no seu palácio e tudo o que os seus antepassados guardaram até hoje. Não ficará nada. 7 Levarão até alguns dos seus descendentes para serem eunucos no palácio do rei de Babilônia”.
8 Ezequias disse a Isaías:
—A mensagem do SENHOR é boa.
(Ele disse isso porque pensou: “Pelo menos nos meus dias haverá paz e segurança”.)

39 At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.
4 Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
5 Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord of hosts:
6 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord.
7 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
8 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

Envoys From Babylon(A)
39 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon(B) sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of his illness and recovery. 2 Hezekiah received the envoys(C) gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold,(D) the spices, the fine olive oil—his entire armory and everything found among his treasures.(E) There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
3 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,(F)” Hezekiah replied. “They came to me from Babylon.”
4 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word(G) of the Lord Almighty: 6 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(H) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 7 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.(I)”
8 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,(J)” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.(K)”
