¹⁶ Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple^(A) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?^{(B) 17} If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

¹⁹ Do you not know that your bodies are temples^(A) of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;^(B)

¹⁶ If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.^(A) I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.^(B) I am not saying that you should pray about that.^{(C) 17} All wrongdoing is sin,^(D) and there is sin that does not lead to death.^(E)

¹⁸ We know that anyone born of God^(F) does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one^(G) cannot harm them.^{(H) 19} We know that we are children of God,^(I) and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.^{(J) 20} We know also that the Son of God has come^(K) and has given us understanding,^(L) so that we may know him who is true.^(M) And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.^(N)

²¹ Dear children,^(O) keep yourselves from idols.^(P)
