New International Version
“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant(B)
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
9 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors(C)
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10 This is the covenant(D) I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.(E)
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.(F)
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,(G)
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.(H)”[b](I)
Worship in the Earthly Tabernacle
9 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary.(L) 2 A tabernacle(M) was set up. In its first room were the lampstand(N) and the table(O) with its consecrated bread;(P) this was called the Holy Place.(Q) 3 Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place,(R) 4 which had the golden altar of incense(S) and the gold-covered ark of the covenant.(T) This ark contained the gold jar of manna,(U) Aaron’s staff that had budded,(V) and the stone tablets of the covenant.(W) 5 Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory,(X) overshadowing the atonement cover.(Y) But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.
6 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly(Z) into the outer room to carry on their ministry. 7 But only the high priest entered(AA) the inner room,(AB) and that only once a year,(AC) and never without blood,(AD) which he offered for himself(AE) and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.(AF)
