¹⁹ We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,^{(A) 20} where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.^(B) He has become a high priest^(C) forever, in the order of Melchizedek.^(D)

¹⁶ For God so loved^(A) the world that he gave^(B) his one and only Son,^(C) that whoever believes^(D) in him shall not perish but have eternal life.^{(E) 17} For God did not send his Son into the world^(F) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.^(G)

²⁵ God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,^[a](A) through the shedding of his blood^(B)—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished^(C)— ²⁶ he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace^(A) and may be guaranteed^(B) to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.^(C)

⁵ And hope^(A) does not put us to shame, because God’s love^(B) has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,^(C) who has been given to us.

⁶ You see, at just the right time,^(D) when we were still powerless,^(E) Christ died for the ungodly.^(F)

⁵ the faith and love that spring from the hope^(A) stored up for you in heaven^(B) and about which you have already heard in the true message^(C) of the gospel ⁶ that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit^(D) and growing throughout the whole world^(E)—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
