²² But you have come to Mount Zion,^(A) to the city^(B) of the living God,^(C) the heavenly Jerusalem.^(D) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, ²³ to the church of the firstborn,^(E) whose names are written in heaven.^(F) You have come to God, the Judge of all,^(G) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,^{(H) 24} to Jesus the mediator^(I) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood^(J) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.^(K)

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse^(L) him who speaks.^(M) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned^(N) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?^(O)

²¹ “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!^(A) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,^(B) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.^{(C) 22} But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.^{(D) 23} And you, Capernaum,^(E) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.^[a](F) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. ²⁴ But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”^(G)

³⁴ You brood of vipers,^(A) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks^(B) what the heart is full of. ³⁵ A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. ³⁶ But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

²⁷ For the Son of Man^(A) is going to come^(B) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.^(C)

¹³ “Woe to you,^(A) Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth^(B) and ashes. ¹⁴ But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

⁴⁸ There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them^(A) at the last day.

Warning to Pay Attention

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.^{(A) 2} For since the message spoken^(B) through angels^(C) was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,^{(D) 3} how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?^(E) This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,^(F) was confirmed to us by those who heard him.^(G)

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.^{(A) 29} How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God^(B) underfoot,^(C) who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant^(D) that sanctified them,^(E) and who has insulted the Spirit^(F) of grace?^(G)
