⁹ By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, ^(A)dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, ^(B)the heirs with him of the same promise;

⁸ And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and ^(A)called on the name of the Lord.

^18 (A)Then Abram moved his tent, and went and ^(B)dwelt by ^[a]the terebinth trees of Mamre, ^(C)which are in Hebron, and built an ^(D)altar there to the Lord.

¹⁷ Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to ^(A)the heirs of promise ^(B)the ^[a]immutability of His counsel, ^[b]confirmed it by an oath,

⁹ Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?”

So he said, “Here, ^(A)in the tent.”

³ And he went on his journey ^(A)from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

³ Then Jacob said to Joseph: “God ^(A)Almighty appeared to me at ^(B)Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, ⁴ and said to me, ‘Behold, I will ^(C)make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people, and ^(D)give this land to your descendants after you ^(E)as an everlasting possession.’

Death of Isaac

²⁷ Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at ^(A)Mamre, or ^(B)Kirjath Arba^[a] (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.

^13 (A)And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: ^(B)“I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; ^(C)the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. ¹⁴ Also your ^(D)descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad ^(E)to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and ^(F)in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
