^37 (A)They were stoned, they were sawn in two, ^[a]were tempted, were slain with the sword. ^(B)They wandered about ^(C)in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—

²¹ So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they ^(A)stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord.

¹⁰ So he said, ^(A)“I have been very ^(B)zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and ^(C)killed Your prophets with the sword. ^(D)I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

²³ And they brought Urijah from Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the ^[a]common people.

¹³ And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels ^(A)witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” ^(B)Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

¹⁵ And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”

⁸ So they answered him, ^(A)“A hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist.”

And he said, ^(B)“It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

³ And I will give power to my two ^(A)witnesses, ^(B)and they will prophesy ^(C)one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

^10 (A)My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and ^(B)patience. ¹¹ Indeed ^(C)we count them blessed who ^(D)endure. You have heard of ^(E)the perseverance of Job and seen ^(F)the end intended by the Lord—that ^(G)the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

The Race of Faith

12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, ^(A)let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and ^(B)let us run ^(C)with endurance the race that is set before us, ² looking unto Jesus, the ^[a]author and ^[b]finisher of our faith, ^(D)who for the joy that was set before Him ^(E)endured the cross, despising the shame, and ^(F)has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

^3 (H)For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, ^(I)lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
