⁸ Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord.^(A)

⁷ and I will shake all the nations, so that the treasure of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with splendor, says the Lord of hosts.^(A)

² “Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.” ³ Then the word of the Lord came by the prophet Haggai, saying: ⁴ “Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?^(A)

Conversion of Nineveh

3 The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying,^{(A) 2} “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.”

⁷ So they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from King Cyrus of Persia.^(A)

¹⁶ For now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that my name may be there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.^(A)

⁸ Send me also cedar, cypress, and algum timber from Lebanon, for I know that your servants are skilled in cutting Lebanon timber. My servants will work with your servants^{(A) 9} to prepare timber for me in abundance, for the house I am about to build will be great and wonderful. ¹⁰ I will provide for your servants, those who cut the timber, twenty thousand cors of crushed wheat, twenty thousand cors of barley, twenty thousand baths^[a] of wine, and twenty thousand baths^[b] of oil.”^(B)

³ The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea that you made before me; I have consecrated this house that you have built and put my name there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.^(A)

⁴³ I will meet with the Israelites there, and it shall be sanctified by my glory;^(A)
